Our History
Drake College of Business was originally founded in Jersey City in 1883 and was known as the Jersey City Business School. Mr. William E. Drake, founder of the school, was one of the earliest educators to recognize the need in business for professionally trained secretaries, accountants and typists. Mr. Drake's foresight in recognizing such a need was shared by many employers who, through the years, have shown a preference in hiring thousands of Drake graduates. Mr. A J Gleason, who purchased the original school from the founder in 1910, changed the name to Drake College. In 1982, the College achieved a milestone in its historical development by attaining national accreditation from the Association of Independent Colleges and Schools in Washington, DC, a national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. Med-Com Career Training, Inc. acquired Drake College of Business in June 2001. Mr. Ziad Fadel assumed the presidency of Drake College of Business and remains its president today. In April of 2005, the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools granted Drake an eight-year accreditation period. In August 2008 Drake expanded its facility and the Newark Campus was opened in September of 2008. Through the years Drake College has undergone multiple transformations, of which more recently the present owners of Drake College of Business have invested in refining the overall face of Drake. Current management has undergone tremendous advancements in new policies and procedures, daily operations, facility remodeling, campus technologies and revised student customer service, enhancing the overall academic experience on campus.
